Yesterday (July 4, 2025), we lost a giant in the world of camping, leadership, and Heart.
Jane was more than the beloved Director of Heart O’ the Hills. She was a legend in the camp community shaping generations of campers, staff, and leaders through her unwavering belief in the power of camp to change lives. She modeled the highest standards of care, character, and connection.
Like so many others, I was lucky enough to call her both a mentor and a friend.
Jane had this extraordinary way of making you feel included. Whether you were an unsure new counselor or a seasoned professional, she offered her wisdom with warmth, her feedback with purpose, and her time with generosity. She didn’t just teach how to lead, she taught how to listen, to guide with grace, to serve with integrity, and to love this work deeply and fiercely.
Heart O’ the Hills wasn’t just a camp. Under Jane’s leadership, it was a sanctuary, a training ground, and a second home. Her legacy lives in the laughter around the campfire, in the quiet confidence of young leaders she nurtured, and in the values that shaped the culture she so carefully built.
Her loss is felt deeply. But her impact? It’s everywhere.
Jane made the field better. She made people better. She made me better.
Thank you, Jane. For believing in a beautiful world. For building something so good. And for being exactly who you were. 💔
