The morning rain
finds me in bed
thinking of you.
I want to call in my best sleepy, throaty voice
to hear you say you’re thinking of me too.
Forgetting the miles and miles and so many days.
You say you don’t feel the distance
but my aching arms sure do.
Now it’s early still
on this rainy Texas morning.
I’m getting in my car
on my way to you.
400 miles out and the radio on
I forgotten where I’ve been
only that I’m gone.
Traveling from one Texas town to another.
Passing each city limit sign-
miles of concrete and barbed wire
looking out at the sea of wildflowers
as it brings me one more town closer to you.
